#reduction
- Absurd — Contradicting the laws of formal logic, common sense, or empirical evidence; devoid of reason, meaning, or internal coherence. As a philosophical concept (existentialism), it denotes the fundamental conflict between the human tendency to seek meaning in life and the cold, silent, meaningless universe. In literature and theater, it represents a movement focused on illustrating the grotesque and illogical nature of the human condition.
- Adiaforetic — Reducing, stopping, blocking, or preventing the body's sweat secretion (perspiration). As a neuter noun, it designates a medicinal agent, a chemical substance, or a therapeutic remedy structurally formulated to diminish the activity of eccrine and apocrine sweat glands, being clinically utilized in the management of hyperhidrosis.
- Aerodynamic — Relating to aerodynamics, concerning the motion of air and gases relative to solid bodies; having a fluid and optimized geometric shape, specially designed to minimize the drag resistance opposed by air during movement. It is widely applied in the design of aircraft, high-speed vehicles, and high-performance sports equipment.
- Aerodynamic efficiency — The quality, property, or degree to which a solid object possesses an aerodynamic shape; the structural capacity of a vehicle's body or an aircraft's fuselage to pierce through air layers with minimal drag resistance. Although frequently used in automotive or commercial jargon, the refined technical term 'aerodynamics' is preferred in academic settings.
- Albinoidism — A softened or partial form of albinism, characterized by a discrete, congenital, and generalized reduction of melanin pigment, without reaching the total depigmentation specific to classic albinism; a structural condition resulting in an unusually light shade of skin, hair, and irises.
- Obsolete alignment form — An obsolete, regional, or erroneous graphical and phonetic form for the term 'aliniere'; the act of placing elements in a straight line or the state resulting from this structural process. In etymological or dialectal studies, it represents a phonetic simplification occurring in local idioms by eliminating the hiatus from the neologistic verbal root.
- Tonsillotomy — A surgical procedure consisting of the incision or partial resection (volume reduction) of the palatine tonsils, structurally distinct from a tonsillectomy, which involves total removal. It is clinically indicated especially in children for the treatment of severe tonsillar hypertrophy causing upper airway obstruction and sleep apnea, preserving a portion of the lymphoid tissue for immune function.
- Amnestiable — Fulfilling the legal conditions to benefit from an amnesty; a person, act, or sentence that falls within the criteria established by a clemency law adopted by Parliament. In a procedural context, it describes criminal elements susceptible to being annulled or erased through the direct effect of amnesty.
- To amputate — To cut off, remove, or surgically resect a limb, an extremity of the body, or a diseased or traumatized organ segment, aiming to save the patient's life or prevent the spread of gangrene; by literary or figurative extension, to drastically reduce, curtail, diminish, or suppress an important part of a text, budget, right, or conceptual structure.
- Cholesterol-lowering — Combating, reducing, or regulating blood cholesterol levels; a medication (such as statins), dietary supplement, or functional food structurally designed to lower low-density lipoproteins (LDL) and prevent cardiovascular risks associated with atherosclerosis.
- To soundproof — To apply a layer of soundproofing compound, bituminous mastic, or other acoustic insulating material onto a surface (especially on a vehicle chassis or structural construction components) in order to reduce noise, damp acoustic vibrations, and provide anti-corrosive protection.
- Soundproofing — The act of soundproofing and its result; the technical process of applying an acoustic insulating layer, bituminous mastic, or sound-absorbing material onto a surface to diminish noise, damp mechanical vibrations, and provide an effective barrier against corrosion.
- Anti-friction — Reducing friction and mechanical wear between two metallic surfaces in rotation or translation; as a feminine noun, it designates a special alloy (based on tin, lead, or copper, like Babbitt metal) or a lubricating treatment applied to decrease structural friction.
- Antiperspirant — Having the property of diminishing, blocking, or regulating sweat secretion by temporarily obstructing skin pores; a substance or cosmetic formula structurally adapted to prevent underarm wetness and unpleasant odors. Unlike a purely deodorizing lotion, an antiperspirant composition acts directly at the level of eccrine glands using aluminum-based compounds.
- Noise-canceling — Isolating, mitigating, absorbing, or canceling noise pollution, parasitic sounds, or unwanted acoustic waves. It applies to insulating materials (sound-absorbing panels, rock wool), highway barriers, engine protective casings, or active electronic technologies (such as ANC headphones) structurally designed to ensure optimal sonic comfort in industrial, urban, or residential environments.
- Anthropologism — A radical philosophical and methodological conception or orientation that tends to reduce all problems of philosophy, culture, morality, and existence exclusively to the study of the human species' anthropological and biological data. This speculative current interprets complex social phenomena and the laws of logic through the lens of human psychophysical structures, being often criticized for the excessive naturalization of culture.
- Apagogic — Belonging to apagogy or indirect proof, based on reduction to absurdity; a type of structural logical reasoning through which the truth of a thesis is proven by highlighting the false, contradictory, or impossible character of the consequences of the opposite thesis.
- Apagogy — A form of indirect proof through which the truth of a thesis is established by proving the falsity of the contradictory thesis (reduction to absurdity). This inverse structural process consists of provisionally accepting the opposite of the statement we want to prove, then showing that this assumption leads to logically unacceptable, absurd, or impossible consequences.
- Haplology — An accidental or regular phonetic modification consisting of the elimination of one of two identical or similar syllables that immediately succeed each other inside a word or at the junction between two words. This structural phenomenon of simplification tends to fluidize pronunciation, a classic example in Romanian being the evolution of certain compound or derived forms where repetitive elements are naturally dropped.
- Arăducere — A regional phonetic variant or archaic nominal form for the standard noun 'reducere' (reduction); it denotes the act of lowering, diminishing, or cutting taxes, levies, or prices. In old chancellery ledgers, the term illustrates the popular vocalic prothesis of 'ă' before an initial 'r'.
