#maritime logistics
- Pier — A constructed platform, fixed or floating hydrotechnical structure (pontoon, small pier, jetty) located on a waterfront, specifically designed to facilitate the mooring of boats, passenger boarding/disembarking, and cargo handling. Historically in rail networks, it denoted a cargo loading platform.
- Embarkation — The act of embarking, boarding, or shipping and its result; a logistical, administrative, or military operation through which passengers, troops, or cargo are taken onto a ship, boat, or aircraft. In international shipping, it is a critical procedural stage marked by customs checks.
- Trimming by the stern — The act of trimming by the stern and its result; a modification of a ship's trim through its longitudinal tilting backward, such that the draft at the stern becomes greater than the draft at the bow. This structural phenomenon can be caused intentionally by shifting ballast or accidentally by flooding rear compartments or misallocating cargo.
- Stowage — A technical operation of properly placing, stowing, securing, and lashing cargo in a ship's hold, in containers, or in airplanes, aiming to optimize available space and prevent cargo shifting during transport, thereby ensuring the structural stability of the vehicle and safety of navigation.
