• Intestate — A phrase of Latin origin used in forensic medicine and psychiatric expert reports meaning 'without a will'. It refers to the succession or inheritance left by a person who died without leaving a valid will. In a clinical context, forensic boards often analyze ab intestat succession cases to evaluate whether the deceased suffered from dementia or other neuropsychiatric conditions that prevented them from executing a testament during their lifetime.
• From an intestate person — The complete legal and forensic Latin form for 'ab intestat', meaning 'coming from a person who died without a testament'. In post-mortem psychiatric expert evaluations, the term is central to analyzing the mental capacity and competence of individuals with neurodegenerative diseases (such as vascular dementia or Alzheimer's) to validate the legal distribution of property.
• In anger / Prompted by rage — A Latin phrase translated as 'by an angry person' or 'under the impulse of rage'. In psychopathology, clinical psychology, and forensic psychiatry, it describes acts, statements, or assaults committed during an intense affective state, where extreme rage temporarily narrows the field of consciousness and reduces the patient's capacity to control impulses or evaluate consequences.
• To alienate — An archaic medical and legal term meaning to alienate, transfer ownership of property, or, in a psychopathological sense, to cause the loss of mental faculties or sever a person's connection with reality. In 19th-century classical psychiatry, it was used to describe the process by which a patient lost sanity or became mentally alienated.
• Abalienated — An archaic medical and legal term used to describe a person who has lost their mental faculties, sanity, or connection with reality; mentally alienated. In the context of historical forensic evaluations, being abalienated implied a lack of criminal responsibility and required the establishment of legal guardianship.
• The state of being abandoned — A psychoanalytic and clinical concept designating the totality of internal feelings, affective complexes, and structural personality changes installed in an individual as a direct consequence of early desertion. It refers not merely to the external act, but to the internal psychic reality internalized by the patient, defined by a constant vulnerability to rejection.
• To abdicate — In a forensic and psychopathological context, the term describes the voluntary or forced act by which a person relinquishes prerogatives, rights, or duties due to mental incapacity, alienation, or severe cognitive decline (such as senile dementia). In classic psychology, the verb also defines the pathological relinquishment of the ego's conscious control over impulses, drives, or volition (abdication of the will or abulia).
• Abdication — The act or process by which a person formally relinquishes a right, an administrative function, or a legal responsibility, analyzed in forensic psychiatry from the perspective of the integrity of discernment. In the psychopathology of volition, the term denotes the dynamic suspension of the ego's executive functions, leading to states of profound apathy, learned helplessness, or psychic capitulation in the face of major traumatic stress.
• Abdication document — A literary noun form historically used as a synonym for 'abdicare', denoting the result or official document certifying the relinquishment of authority. In psychiatric semiology and forensic medicine evaluations, the term emphasized the formal act of behavioral relinquishment generated by severe emotional lability, external psychological pressure (blackmail, coercion), or a disabling cognitive deficit.
• Archaic abdication act — An archaic and etymological variant for the term 'abdicare' or 'abdicație', frequently used in 19th and early 20th-century Romanian forensic texts. In the context of examining mentally alienated patients, the word denoted the formal act by which an individual abandoned civil duties or patrimony, with the validity of this act being contested in court based on evidence of mental alienation, mania, or severe cognitive disorders.
• Absalom — A masculine proper name of Hebrew origin (Avshalom, meaning 'father of peace'), borne by the third son of King David, famous for his exceptional physical beauty, his extremely long hair, and his tragic death (caught by his hair in the branches of an oak tree during a rebellion against his father). In early psychoanalytic semiology and metaphorical psychopathology, the name has been occasionally used to describe unresolved parental conflicts, destructive narcissistic pride, or the complex of violent rebellion against paternal authority.
• Ablaut — A systematic vowel alternation within the same root of a word, used in Indo-European languages to express differences in grammatical function, tense, mood, or lexical derivation, without adding suffixes. This mechanism is most visible in the inflection of irregular (strong) verbs in Germanic languages, where changing the vowel modifies the grammatical tense.
• Mental ablepsia — An abstract concept used in philosophy and social psychology to denote mental blindness, lack of discernment, the total inability to perceive or understand an obvious truth or factual reality; a state of profound intellectual obtuseness caused by dogmatism or prejudice. Unlike ignorance, the term emphasizes a self-induced or systemic cognitive blockage that prevents critical reflection.
• Abraham — A Western European, Germanic, or English form of the biblical masculine proper name Avraam (derived from the Hebrew 'Avraham'); (historical/religious sense) the first great patriarch of the Jewish people, recognized as a central foundational figure in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam; (modern onomastic sense) a family name used internationally and also adopted within Romanian anthroponomics; (toponym) the name of several locations worldwide or geographical landmarks named in honor of historical figures.
• Abram — A proper name with deep biblical and historical roots; (anthroponym) the original, Hebrew form of the patriarch Abraham's name (meaning 'exalted father'), used before the divinity changed his name to Abraham ('father of a multitude'); as a first or last name, it is frequently found internationally and sporadically in Romania; (toponym) the name of a commune in Bihor County, Romania, as well as its main residency village.
• Abramescu (surname) — A traditional Romanian surname formed as a patronymic name; it indicates lineage or descent from an ancestor or head of family named Abram or Avram; historically borne by various personalities in Romanian academia, military, or culture, most notably General Gheorghe Abramescu (1884–1945), an elite military commander during World War II.
• Abrudan — A common Romanian surname, predominantly widespread in the Transylvania region (especially in Bihor, Cluj, Alba, and Arad counties), originally formed as a demonym to designate a person originating from the town or region of Abrud.
• Abstractionist — A visual artist (painter, sculptor) who creates in the spirit of abstractionism, abandoning figurative elements in favor of pure forms; (as an adjective) belonging to abstractionism, relating to the creations, techniques, or manifestations specific to non-figurative art.
• Female abstractionist — A female visual artist (painter, sculptor) whose work falls within the parameters of non-figurative art, eliminating the representation of the visible world; (as an adjective) feminine form for manifestations, techniques, schools, or aesthetic trends that promote the exclusive use of pure shapes, lines, and colors.
• To lull — A rare regional term or archaic onomatopoeic form used in traditional rural communities, with the primary meaning of sheltering, rocking, or soothing an infant through repetitive vocalizations, often associated with sleeping or protective rituals. In certain micro-dialectal contexts, the verb also suggests a gentle blowing or whispering breeze, reflecting popular expressive speech meant to describe soft, hypnotic, and nurturing domestic movements.
