#measuring instruments
- Aneroid — A mechanical instrument used to measure atmospheric pressure based on the elastic deformations of a hermetic metal capsule inside which a partial vacuum has been created. As an adjective, it describes any device, barometer, or sphygmomanometer that structurally functions without the use of any liquid (such as mercury), transmitting the capsule's volume variations directly to a pointer needle via a system of precision levers.
- Astatization — A technical process or structural method through which an oscillating system, a measuring instrument (such as a galvanometer or seismograph), or a regulator is brought into a state of astatism; this operation cancels or minimizes the elastic or gravitational restoring force, causing the system to remain in equilibrium regardless of its position or considerably increasing the device's sensitivity to external perturbations.
