Definition
A mechanical instrument used to measure atmospheric pressure based on the elastic deformations of a hermetic metal capsule inside which a partial vacuum has been created. As an adjective, it describes any device, barometer, or sphygmomanometer that structurally functions without the use of any liquid (such as mercury), transmitting the capsule's volume variations directly to a pointer needle via a system of precision levers.
