#hearing
- Hearing protector — Personal protective equipment designed to attenuate ambient noise levels and protect the auditory system against acoustic traumas; ear protector. As an adjective, it describes a device, soundproofing material, or substance capable of diminishing harmful acoustic wave intensity.
- Audition — The act of listening to a musical piece, broadcast, or literary text; performance of a musical work before an audience or a committee. In the performing arts, it represents the practical audition or exam taken by an artist to secure a role. In physiology, it denotes the function of perceiving sounds.
- Audition — An obsolete lexicographical variant of the term 'audiție'. It designates the act of listening to a musical work, reading, or broadcast, as well as the practical trial performed by an artist before a jury. Although present in early 20th-century texts, it has been fully replaced by the short variant.
- Auditory — Belonging to hearing, relating to hearing or its organs; destined for the perception of sounds. In a neurophysiological sense, the term describes all the structural and nerve channels responsible for transforming acoustic vibrations from the environment into bioelectric signals interpreted by the cerebral cortex.
- Autophone — A medical apparatus or device used for magnifying sounds and improving hearing in hard-of-hearing individuals; a hearing aid. As an adjective or in an extended acoustic sense, the term describes an acoustic system capable of adjusting its sound reception parameters based on its own echo or vibrations.
- Autophony — An unpleasant clinical symptom characterized by the abnormal, highly intense, and magnified perception of one's own voice, breathing, or internal body sounds inside the affected ear. This phenomenon occurs most frequently due to Eustachian tube dysfunction, specifically a patulous Eustachian tube, or severe middle ear congestion.
- Hearing — One of the five fundamental senses of humans and vertebrate animals, through which sound waves from the environment are perceived; a complex physiological function performed by the auditory system (ear, acoustic nerve, and cortical centers in the brain), consisting of transforming mechanical vibrations into nerve impulses.
- Audible — Capable of being heard; whose mechanical vibrations fall within the limits of frequency (usually between 20 and 20,000 Hertz) and intensity perceptible by the human auditory organ; audible, perceptible.
- Hearing — The act of hearing and its result; the perception of sound waves by the auditory organ or the process through which information or a rumor comes to a person's knowledge; the sense of hearing viewed in its dynamic manifestation.
