- To engage — To establish an electrical connection by closing a circuit using a switch, relay, contactor, or circuit breaker; to put an automated system or apparatus into operation. Broadly, the action describes the automatic or manual triggering of a switching mechanism, being the opposite of the term 'to trip' or 'to uncouple'.
- Engagement — The act of engaging or closing an electrical circuit; the technical operation of making a circuit or coupling a mechanism via a switching apparatus. In power systems, the process represents the restoration of current flow within a network, which can be performed manually by an operator or automatically by specialized relays following the restoration of nominal parameters.
- Engaged — Having the electrical circuit closed; coupled, connected, or put into operation via a switching device. The term describes the stable operational state of a switch, relay, or contactor whose internal contacts are firmly touching, allowing the flow of electrical current to consumers.
- Self-inductance — A scalar physical quantity characterizing the property of an electric circuit to produce its own magnetic flux when traversed by a variable electric current; self-inductance. Numerically, it equals the ratio of the total magnetic flux passing through the surface bounded by the circuit to the intensity of the current producing this flux, its International System unit being the henry (H).
