- Anemolite — A crystalline cave deposit or speleothem (modified stalactite) whose vertical growth axis is structurally deflected or curved in a constant direction due to the presence of permanent underground wind or air currents inside the cave during the crystallization process.
- Ahistoricism — A theoretical attitude, doctrine, or methodological orientation that denies the importance of history, ignores the laws of historical development in explaining social phenomena, or refuses to recognize the historical determination of culture and human institutions. It represents a stance often found in radical Enlightenment or classical structuralism, where emphasis is placed on the rational or formal constants of humanity.
- Anti-rationalism — A philosophical current or theoretical attitude that rejects rationalism, contesting the primacy of reason as the supreme instrument of knowledge and understanding of reality. This epistemological doctrine argues that pure intellect and logical deduction are limited, dogmatic, or incapable of penetrating the essence of existence, giving absolute priority to intuition, mystical experience, religious faith, or vital and instinctual impulses of the human being.
- Ascensional — Relating to ascension, belonging to ascension, or causing or favoring a movement from bottom to top. In meteorology and aerodynamics, the term structurally describes the vertical force or air current that lifts an atmospheric mass or a body, being essential for understanding convective phenomena, cloud formation, and unpowered flight.
- Today — On the current day, in the immediate present; a fundamental adverb of time indicating the ongoing 24-hour period; in a broad or figurative sense, it denotes the current era, modern times, contemporary society, or the historical present.
- Self-excited — Regarding machines, generators, or electrical systems: self-excited; producing its own excitation current required to create its magnetic field without an external power source. Broadly or figuratively, it describes a system, circuit, or state that stimulates, maintains, or amplifies itself through its own internal mechanisms or residual reactions.
- Self-inductance — A scalar physical quantity characterizing the property of an electric circuit to produce its own magnetic flux when traversed by a variable electric current; self-inductance. Numerically, it equals the ratio of the total magnetic flux passing through the surface bounded by the circuit to the intensity of the current producing this flux, its International System unit being the henry (H).
- Self-induction — An electromagnetic phenomenon consisting of the production of an induced electromotive force within an electric circuit due to the variation of the electric current intensity flowing through that circuit; self-induction. According to Lenz's law, the resulting self-induction current has a direction that opposes the variation of the main current, manifesting as electromagnetic inertia when circuits are established or interrupted.
- Autotransformer — A special type of electrical transformer possessing a single winding on a common magnetic core, structurally serving as both primary and secondary windings through intermediate taps. This electrotechnical device is used for step-by-step or fixed variation of alternating voltage, offering high efficiency, small dimensions, and material savings compared to classic transformers with two galvanically isolated windings.
