#aspirat
- Intake — The initial phase of the operating cycle of an internal combustion engine or pump, during which the working fluid (air, fuel mixture, or steam) is sucked or introduced into the cylinder; the pipe, port, or mechanism through which this introduction is achieved. The process is controlled by special valves to optimize volumetric efficiency and complete combustion.
- Aphagia — A severe medical condition defined by the total inability or absolute powerlessness to swallow saliva, liquids, or food, representing the most extreme and dangerous form of dysphagia. This pathology can occur following a stroke, severe neuromuscular disorders, tumoral esophageal obstructions, or the presence of a foreign body, requiring urgent medical attention to prevent aspiration pneumonia or malnutrition.
- Arthrocentesis — An invasive medical procedure consisting of puncturing a joint cavity using a sterile needle, performed for diagnostic purposes (to extract and analyze synovial fluid) or therapeutic purposes (to evacuate a fluid effusion or inject medications). It is a fundamental technique in rheumatology and orthopedics for the rapid evaluation of septic or microcrystalline arthritis.
- To aspire — To draw air into the lungs, to breathe in; to absorb a fluid, dust, or small objects via an air current created by a device (such as a vacuum cleaner) or through pressure differences; in a figurative and spiritual sense, it means to aim for a high goal, to long for, or to eagerly desire to obtain a position, status, or ideal.
- Suction — The act of aspirating, suctioning, or drawing in and its result; a structural process whereby a fluid (gas or liquid) or fine particles are drawn into an enclosed space by creating a pressure differential or a partial vacuum; (in phonetics) an intense air emission accompanying the articulation of a sound (aspirated consonant).
- Aspirated — Having been absorbed through an air current or drawn into the lungs through breathing; a sound or consonant pronounced with a strong emission of breath (aspiration); the liquid or solid product extracted from a body cavity via a medical suction pump. In a figurative sense, it describes a grand ideal or goal that a person eagerly aimed for.
- Aspirated consonant — A consonant whose pronunciation involves an additional and audible emission of breath, specific to many Germanic or Oriental languages; as an adjective, it describes a feminine entity, a surface (such as a carpet), or a liquid or gaseous substance that has undergone pneumatic absorption.
- Aspiration — A strong desire, inner tendency, or grand ideal toward which a person or a collective aims (aspiration, ideal); in a technical context, it represents the physical action of absorbing or suctioning a fluid or gas by creating low pressure; in medicine, it denotes the accidental entry of foreign bodies or liquids into the airways or the controlled extraction of fluids from the body.
- Aspiration — A literary, archaic, or formal variant of aspiration, designating a strong desire, structural tendency, or spiritual drive of an individual or collectivity toward an ideal, a higher achievement, or a noble goal; (rarely, in an old physical sense) the mechanical process of drawing in or suctioning an air or fluid current.
- Vacuum cleaner — An electrical household appliance or industrial device equipped with a motor that creates a pressure difference (partial vacuum), used to absorb dust, impurities, or liquids from various surfaces and collect them in a bag or special container; as an adjective, it describes any device, organ, or mechanical system capable of performing absorption or attraction through suction.
- Aspirating — Having the property or function of aspiring, absorbing, or drawing a fluid or air through suction; an old technical and physiological term used in 19th-century scientific writings to describe primitive pneumatic devices or anatomical channels that facilitated breathing or fluid absorption.
