#amon

• Acanthoceras — A genus of extinct fossil cephalopod mollusks (ammonites) within the Acanthoceratidae family, characteristic of the Late Cretaceous epoch. These marine organisms were distinguished by their massive, planospiral coiled shells heavily ornamented with prominent ribs and rows of sharp tubercles or spine-like outgrowths along the outer whorls, serving as critical index fossils for dating geological strata of that period.
• Adamantine — Pertaining to diamond, relating to diamond; having the hardness, brilliance, resistance, or structural qualities of a diamond; in dentistry and anatomy, it refers to the tooth enamel, the hardest tissue in the human body. Figuratively or mythologically, the term describes an iron will, an inflexible character, perfect moral purity, or an unyielding resistance in the face of difficulties.
• Adamant — An archaic, rare, or regional form of the noun 'diamant' (diamond), or used in ancient legends and religious texts to designate a mythological precious stone of extreme, indestructible hardness, often confused with diamond or loadstone. This structural term serves in ancient texts as a symbol for steadfastness, absolute purity, spiritual moral resilience, or unyielding harshness.
• Aegoceras — An extinct genus of ammonoid cephalopods within the order Ammonitida and family Liparoceratidae, which thrived during the Early Jurassic epoch (predominantly in the epicontinental seas covering modern Western Europe). The shells of these ammonites are evolute, characterized by widely open whorls, rounded whorl sections, and prominent, well-spaced transverse ribs, holding significant stratigraphical value as index fossils for mapping geological strata.
• Agamont — A plant or animal organism that reproduces through purely asexual means, without the formation or fusion of gametes; a structural biological individuality within the agamic phase of its life cycle. This term defines microbiological or botanical entities whose ontogenetic replication relies exclusively on mitosis, direct division, or autonomous sporulation.
• Volatile alkali — An archaic and historical designation used in chemistry and old pharmacy for ammonia (gas or an aqueous solution of ammonium hydroxide). The term highlights the substance's alkaline (basic) character and its pronounced capacity to evaporate rapidly at room temperature, releasing a strong, pungent, and suffocating odor.
• Almas — A term borrowed from Oriental languages (from Turkish or Arabic - 'almas' / 'almás') historically or comparatively used to denote a diamond or a gemstone of exceptional hardness and brilliance; in geography, it represents a spelling variant without diacritics for 'Almaș', a river and historical region in Transylvania (Romania), rich in archaeological remains and folklore traditions.
• Allotropic — Relating to simple substances or chemical elements: presenting allotropy; capable of manifesting or crystallizing in two or more distinct external shapes or molecular and crystalline structures, possessing different physical properties, although the raw elemental chemical composition remains identical (for instance, diamond and graphite as allotropic forms of carbon).
• Alpiniad — A mass sports competition, championship, festival, or organized gathering of mountaineering, bringing together climbers and mountain rescue teams to scale climbing routes, establish rock speed records, or perform mountain rescue drills. This structural type of sports event, highly popular in the second half of the 20th century, aimed to promote alpine sports and test the technical endurance of participants.
• Amatol — A military explosive material composed of a homogeneous mixture of trinitrotoluene (TNT) and ammonium nitrate, widely used during World War I and World War II for filling artillery shells, aerial bombs, and naval mines.
• Amenemhat — The name borne by four Egyptian pharaohs of the Twelfth Dynasty during the Middle Kingdom, a golden age of ancient Egyptian culture and stability. The name originates from the ancient Egyptian language and translates to 'Amun is at the forefront' or 'Amun is foremost', reflecting the rise of the Theban god Amun to the status of supreme state deity.
• Amine — An organic compound structurally derived, theoretically or practically, from ammonia by replacing one, two, or all three hydrogen atoms with hydrocarbon radicals (alkyl or aryl). Depending on the number of hydrogen atoms replaced, amines are classified into primary, secondary, and tertiary, possessing basic character and playing crucial biological and industrial roles (ranging from amino acids and neurotransmitters to dyes and pharmaceuticals).
• Amination — A chemical process by which an amino group is introduced into the molecule of an organic compound, typically through reaction with ammonia or other aminating agents. This structural reaction is essential in the industrial synthesis of numerous dyes, medications, plastics, and in biochemistry pathways for amino acid formation.
• Ammon — A major deity in Egyptian mythology (Amun / Amon), originally associated with the air and hidden aspects of creation, later syncretized with the sun god as Amun-Ra and adopted by the Greeks as the god Ammon. Often depicted with ram horns, his cult was centered at the main temple in Thebes and the famous oracle in the Siwa Oasis, where Alexander the Great was proclaimed a legitimate son of this deity.
• Ammophos — A granulated, complex, and concentrated chemical mineral fertilizer, obtained by neutralizing phosphoric acid with ammonia. This industrial compound mainly consists of monoammonium phosphate and diammonium phosphate, being widely used in agriculture due to its high water solubility, ensuring rapid and balanced plant assimilation of nitrogen and phosphorus during the early vegetation phases.
• Amon — Supreme divinity in Egyptian mythology, considered the king of gods and creator of the universe, originally worshiped as the god of air and wind in Thebes, and later merged with the sun god under the name Amon-Ra. His name structurally translates to 'The Hidden One' or 'The Invisible One', symbolizing the unseen omnipresence and absolute power governing the cosmic order and pharaonic dynasties.
• Ammonal — An industrial and military explosive substance composed of a homogeneous mixture of ammonium nitrate, aluminum powder, and trinitrotoluene (TNT) or charcoal. The aluminum functions as a powerful thermal agent that considerably increases the temperature and blast of the explosion, making amonal ideal for large-scale mining operations or for charging heavy projectiles.
• Ammonia — A colorless, gaseous chemical compound with an extremely pungent and suffocating odor, composed of one nitrogen atom and three hydrogen atoms (NH3). It is highly soluble in water, forming ammonium hydroxide, and serves as a fundamental raw material in the global chemical industry for manufacturing nitrogen fertilizers, explosives, plastics, and household cleaning products.
• Ammoniacal — Containing ammonia, derived from ammonia, or exhibiting its specific chemical or olfactory traits. In laboratory language, it describes a solution, a mixture, or an atmosphere saturated with NH3 particles, usually presenting a strongly alkaline reaction.
• Ammoniated — Having been combined, treated, or impregnated with ammonia; a substance, solution, or mineral compound that has absorbed NH3 molecules into its physical or chemical structure. In the context of industrial production, the term describes the state of a reactive material subjected to the ammoniation process to modify its pH or solubility properties.
