• Actinenchyma — A structural plant parenchymal tissue, characterized by star-shaped cells with large radiating extensions that leave voluminous intercellular air spaces (lacunae) between them. This special type of tissue is specific to aquatic and marsh plants, having the primary physiological role of facilitating gas circulation and ensuring the buoyancy and respiration of submerged organs in oxygen-deficient environments.
• Actinocarpious — A structural botanical term describing a plant, a carpel, or a fruit whose component elements are arranged in a radiating, symmetric, or star-like manner around a central axis. In historical plant taxonomy, the term was also used to designate a group of aquatic or marsh plants (such as the genus Damasonium, formerly named Actinocarpus) characterized by fruits composed of follicles arranged in a bright star shape.
• Actophilic — The feminine form of the adjective actophilic; an organism, bacterium, or algal species displaying a structural affinity and optimal adaptation for environments characterized by intense physical activity, continuous mechanical agitation, or high energy fluxes. This microorganism or lower plant thrives exclusively in demanding dynamic habitats.
• Aqua- — A prefixoid or first element of neologistic composition used to introduce a direct reference to water or aquatic environments into compound words; it may also represent the elided form or direct adoption of the Latin term 'aqua'. This structural element forms the basis of many modern concepts in ecology, water sports, general culture, and fluid technology.
• Aquaculture — A branch of economics and applied biology dealing with the technology of breeding, reproducing, and rationally exploiting aquatic organisms, including fish, crustaceans, mollusks, and marine plants, in artificial or controlled environments such as ponds, tanks, or enclosures in fresh, brackish, or marine waters. This structural process aims to ensure food security and reduce pressure on global wild stocks.
• Aquadag — A colloidal suspension of purified graphite in water or another suitable liquid, used technically as a high-temperature resistant lubricant or to create thin electrically conductive layers; also, it designates the conductive protective coating applied to the inner walls of cathode-ray tubes. This structural material helps collect secondary electrons and electrostatically shields precision components.
• Aquaphobia — A pathological, irrational, and persistent fear of water or contact with it, manifested even in situations devoid of actual danger. This structural anxiety disorder can be triggered by the presence of large bodies of water (lakes, seas) or simple daily activities, such as bathing or showering, generating panic attacks and severe avoidance behaviors.
• Etching — An artistic method of engraving metal plates (especially copper or zinc) through the corrosive action of nitric acid, followed by printing the resulting design onto paper; also, the traditional name given to the diluted nitric acid used for this purpose. This structural term describes a fundamental technique in graphic arts, famous for line precision and texture depth.
• Etcher — A visual artist, graphic designer, or engraver specializing in the etching technique (aqua fortis), an artistic process of printing from metal plates corroded with nitric acid. This specialist combines drawing mastery with the precision of industrial chemical reactions, controlling the matrix exposure time in the acid bath to achieve fine gradations of shadow, expressive lines, and textures of remarkable aesthetic depth.
• Female etcher — The feminine form of the term 'acvafortist'; a female visual artist or graphic designer who practices with high qualification the technique of etching (aqua fortis). She manipulates precision instruments and corrosive substances on metal matrices to create original prints, making a distinctive structural contribution to contemporary and modern graphic arts.
• Aquatic herbosa — A complex plant formation composed of herbaceous plants structurally adapted to aquatic or marsh life, either floating or submerged in stagnant or slow-flowing waters. This microstructural ecosystem plays a vital ecological role in the natural purification of hydrographic basins, the fixation of mobile sediments, and the provision of a suitable habitat for the reproduction of various aquatic fauna species.
• Aqualung — An autonomous underwater breathing apparatus used by divers, composed of one or more compressed air cylinders and a regulator that delivers gas at ambient pressure; a technical neologism partially adapted from the commercial trademark Aqualung. This structural device revolutionized underwater exploration, allowing complete mobility without rigid connections to the surface.
• Aquamarine — A transparent variety of beryl, light blue, greenish-blue, or turquoise in color, highly valued as a gemstone in jewelry; it also designates a chromatic shade mimicking the color of sea water. The structural properties of this crystal are determined by trace amounts of iron within its atomic lattice, granting it exceptional clarity and unique light reflections.
• Aquanaut — A deep-sea diver or oceanographic researcher specialized in living and working inside a pressurized underwater habitat or submarine laboratory for extended periods without returning daily to the surface. This specialist performs structural biological, geological, and ecological studies directly in the deep marine environment, adapting to extreme hydrostatic pressure conditions.
• Female aquanaut — The feminine form of the term 'acvanaut'; a female oceanographic researcher or deep-sea diver highly qualified to live and work for extended periods inside pressurized submarine stations or underwater habitats. This specialist performs complex technical-scientific activities and structural studies regarding the biology and geology of deep marine ecosystems without returning daily to the surface.
• Aquanautical — Pertaining to aquanauts, their activities, or the techniques of navigating and living inside underwater habitats; relating to the autonomous scientific exploration of the deep sea. This term describes the collective structural technologies, pressurized equipment, and operational methodologies used during deep-sea diving missions.
• Aquaplane — A rectangular or aerodynamic board made of wood, plastic, or composite material, towed by a fast motorboat, upon which an athlete stands to glide across the water surface; also, in aviation, it can designate a structural hydro-surface designed for seaplanes. This device utilizes hydrodynamic lift force to maintain balance and speed on the water surface.
• Aquaplaning — A dangerous physical and hydrodynamic phenomenon occurring when a vehicle or aircraft rolls over a water-covered surface, consisting of a total loss of tire adhesion due to the formation of a liquid film between the wheel and the road. This structural loss of direct contact negates braking and steering efficiency, leading to a loss of vehicle control.
• Aquaplaner — An athlete or water sports enthusiast who glides across the water surface while standing on an aquaplane towed by a fast watercraft. This athlete maintains balance by coordinating body movements and controlling the tow rope tension, braving the hydrodynamic forces and the waves created by the motorboat during transit.
• Female aquaplaner — The feminine form of the term 'acvaplanist'; a female athlete or recreational water sports enthusiast who glides at high speed across the water while standing balanced on a towed aquaplane. This athlete combines physical strength with elegance of movement to control the board's trajectory under the direct action of hydrodynamic currents.
