#sterile
- Abacterial — A medical term used to describe an environment, biological sample (urine, cerebrospinal fluid), or inflammatory process where no bacteria are present. An abacterial inflammation (such as abacterial cystitis or prostatitis) produces symptoms similar to an infection but is triggered by chemical, immune, traumatic factors, or viruses, with laboratory microbial cultures remaining negative.
- Abacteriemic — A medical term describing the state of an organism or circulating blood in which no viable bacteria are present. It is used clinically to confirm the absence of a systemic infection disseminated through the bloodstream or to describe the complete remission phase of a patient successfully treated for bacteremia, where repeated blood cultures turn negative.
- Abi- (combining form) — A learned combining form used as a prefixoid (a variant of the prefix 'abio-') to denote the absence of life, the lack of living organisms, or organic processes taking place outside active biological structures. In biochemistry and clinical pharmacology, it forms technical terms describing sterile environments, artificial chemical syntheses of genetic compounds, or molecular reactions completely devoid of living cellular interaction.
- Abiosis — A scientific term denoting the total absence of life or the state of an environment in which the existence of living organisms is completely impossible due to the lack of essential abiotic factors or the presence of extreme physico-chemical conditions. It can also describe the temporary suspension of an organism's vital manifestations (latent life state).
- Fruitless — Lacking fruit, unfruitful, or exhibiting a biological inability to produce fruit. In applied botany, the term characterizes plants, trees, or crops that, due to genetic anomalies, unfavorable climatic conditions, or pathogen attacks, fail to complete their reproductive cycle through the formation and maturation of fruits.
- Amicrobial — Containing no microbes, not caused by microbes, or developing in the absence of microorganisms; relating to pathological processes (such as certain inflammations or aseptic abscesses) whose structural etiology does not involve the presence of infectious bacteria or fungi.
- Androsterile — Pertaining to plants, flowers, or vegetable varieties exhibiting male sterility, structurally characterized by the inability to produce viable pollen, functional anthers, or fertile male reproductive organs, while the female organs (gynoecium) remain fully normal and capable of fertilization.
- Pyrogen-free — Apyrogenous or pyrogen-free; not producing fever, describing a substance, infusible solution, or sterile medical preparation that is completely free of pyrogens (bacterial or chemical agents capable of inducing a febrile reaction in human or animal bodies upon injection). It is a mandatory trait for all fluids administered intravenously.
- Arid — Lacking moisture, dry, barren; a region or climate characterized by extremely low precipitation and high evapotranspiration, structural conditions that prevent the development of rich vegetation or traditional agriculture. Figuratively, it describes a text, speech, or domain lacking sensitivity, dynamism, expressiveness, or imagination, being considered dull or monotonous.
- Asepsis — A prophylactic method of preventing microbial infections, consisting of preventing pathogenic germs from entering organisms, wounds, or surgical fields, achieved through the prior sterilization of medical instruments, dressings, and rigorous washing of the surgeon's hands. Unlike antisepsis, which destroys existing microbes, asepsis represents a set of rigorous preventive measures designed to ensure a total absence of live infectious agents.
- Aseptic — Pertaining to asepsis, relating to asepsis; characterized by the total absence of pathogenic germs, live microbes, or bacteria. It is applied to an environment, a surgical instrument, a dressing, or an industrial process (such as bottling) performed under perfect sterile conditions to prevent fermentation, spoilage, or infection.
- Autosterile — Possessing the property to maintain sterility or autonomously destroy microorganisms, bacteria, or viruses that come into contact with its surface, without requiring the subsequent application of chemical disinfectants or external heat treatments. It is used in medical technology to describe specialized packaging, treated surgical instruments, or smart synthetic materials with intrinsic antimicrobial action.
- Azoo — Completely devoid of animal organisms or traces of faunal existence; a term utilized as an independent adjective or combining form (a variant of azoic) to describe sterile ecological environments, archaic geological strata, or laboratory cultures where no animal life forms have developed.
