- Abendmusik (music therapy style) — A cultural term of German origin designating a series of evening musical performances, transposed into art therapy, clinical music therapy, and sleep management. In neuro-psychiatry protocols, the concept of abendmusik is used to describe structured interventions using relaxing, low-frequency music with steady rhythms, performed in the latter part of the day. The therapeutic purpose consists in reducing evening psychomotor agitation (sundowning syndrome found in dementias), inducing cortical relaxation, lowering cortisol levels, and facilitating the onset of sleep in patients with chronic anxiety or insomnia.
- Abies nordmanniana / Nordmann fir — A species of fir native to the mountains surrounding the Black Sea (Caucasus, Turkey), commonly known as the Caucasian fir or Nordmann fir. In European balneology and clinical aromatherapy, this species is highly valued for the superior quality of the essential oil obtained from its needles, rich in bornyl acetate and camphene, substances intensely used in inhalation therapy for lung disinfection and in therapeutic baths for muscle relaxation and nervous system soothing.
- Aerothermotherapy — A therapeutic method or medical physiotherapy procedure that utilizes directed applications of warm air (in the form of hot air baths, insufflations, or mechanically propelled streams) upon a patient's body for the purpose of clinical rehabilitation. This structural treatment works by stimulating peripheral vasodilation, intensifying local metabolism, relaxing muscles, and soothing chronic joint pains.
- Anti-stress — Preventing, combating, diminishing, or neutralizing the harmful effects of mental or physical stress on the human body. It refers to medicinal substances, natural remedies, therapeutic activities, or products specially designed to induce a state of deep relaxation, reduce anxiety, and restore the homeostatic balance of the central nervous system.
- Aromatherapy — A branch of alternative medicine and phytotherapy that utilizes volatile essential oils concentrated and extracted from aromatic plants, flowers, or roots to improve physical, mental, and emotional well-being, primarily through inhalation or topical massage.
- Self-hypnosis — A state of hypnosis or trance induced by a person upon themselves through techniques of concentration, breathing, and mental autosuggestion, without the intervention of an external hypnotist; self-hypnosis. It is widely utilized in stress management, overcoming insomnia, and modifying unwanted behaviors.
- Self-massage — A therapeutic or relaxation technique consisting of the manual application, by an individual onto their own body, of specific massage maneuvers (friction, kneading, pressure, tapping). Frequently used in sports medical recovery, stress management, and reflexology, this self-care procedure helps stimulate local blood circulation, release muscle tension, reduce pain caused by contractures, and accelerate lymphatic drainage without the assistance of a professional masseur.
- Self-relaxation — The act of relaxing oneself and its result; a psychophysical method or technique through which a person consciously and voluntarily reduces muscle tension, mental stress, and anxiety without guided therapeutic assistance. It relies on controlled breathing exercises, positive visualization, or autogenic training to induce a state of calm and inner balance.
