#physiological definition
- Alasotonic — Pertaining to the tonicity or osmotic pressure specific to a saline solution; characterized by the structural balance between the salt concentration of an external liquid medium and that of internal cellular fluids, preventing cellular dehydration or membrane rupture. In a molecular physiological sense, the term describes the property of a mineral solution to maintain constant the osmotic pressure of living tissues exposed to interactions with sodium or chloride ions.
- Allocrine — A term describing a gland, tissue, or secretion mechanism in which the produced biochemical substances are released outside the organism or toward another individual of the same or a different species, acting as external chemical messengers (such as pheromones or allomones). In a structural sense, it defines inter-organism exocrine chemical communication processes, opposed to classical endocrine or paracrine systems.
