#histology terms
- Adelomorphous — Having an undefined, vague, hidden, or structurally difficult to determine shape; lacking precise contours or a stable geometric configuration. In histology and anatomy, it describes certain epithelial cells or glandular structures whose boundaries cannot be clearly distinguished under the microscope without special staining.
- Adenochondroma — A benign tumor formation with a mixed histological structure, characterized by the simultaneous proliferation of epithelial glandular tissue and cartilaginous tissue. This structural benign neoplasm occurs most frequently within the salivary glands (particularly in pleomorphic adenomas) or the mammary gland, presenting a slow evolution and sharp demarcation from surrounding tissues.
- Adenolipomatosis — A condition characterized by the benign, simultaneous, and excessive proliferation of adipose tissue within or around lymph nodes and glandular structures, leading to a diffuse enlargement of their volume. This histopathological structural phenomenon disrupts the normal architecture of regional soft tissue, generating palpable nodular formations that are often asymptomatic but can pose differential diagnosis challenges with simple lipomas or malignant lymphadenopathies.
- Fat necrosis — A destructive pathological process characterized by the cell death (necrosis) of adipose tissue, occurring as a result of physical trauma, local ischemia, surgical interventions, or enzymatic actions (such as in acute pancreatitis through lipase release). This cellular structural phenomenon leads to the formation of indurated nodules, oil cysts, or calcium deposits through the saponification of free fatty acids.
- Argyrophilic — Having a high chemical affinity for or binding silver salts; a cell, organic tissue, or microscopic structure (such as reticulin fibers) capable of partially reducing silver ions following appropriate chemical pretreatment, acquiring an intense black or brown color. In a histological sense, argyrophilic elements are essential for highlighting fine anatomical details of the nervous system or connective networks within internal organs.
- Autodesmosome — A rare form of cellular junction or atypical membrane structure through which a cell creates an adhesive link (desmosome type) with itself by folding its cytoplasmic membrane, a phenomenon structurally observed in certain pathological states, tumors, in vitro cell cultures, or during intense cell differentiation processes.
