#fluids
- Antifreeze — A liquid chemical substance (usually based on ethylene glycol or propylene glycol) which, when added to water in the cooling systems of internal combustion engines or industrial installations, considerably lowers its freezing point and prevents structural damage to pipes due to ice expansion; antifreeze. As an adjective, it describes the property of a compound to prevent the solidification of fluids at low temperatures.
- Antiflocculant — Preventing, blocking, or delaying the flocculation process (the aggregation of fine particles suspended in a liquid into gelatinous flakes); a chemical dispersing agent used to maintain the homogeneous stability of colloidal suspensions. Antiflocculant agents increase electrostatic repulsion to prevent premature sedimentation.
- Antifreeze — Preventing, impeding, or combating the freezing of liquids or the formation of ice on various surfaces; a chemical substance, additive (such as antifreeze), or technical system utilized to lower the freezing point of water or to protect installations during winter. In a structural sense, it describes protective heating circuits or compounds that maintain solution fluidity at sub-zero temperatures.
- Apeptic — Relating to apepsia or characterized by the absence of pepsin and normal gastric fermentation; regarded as a semantic and etymological variant for 'apepsic'. It describes a faulty functional state in which the gastric juice loses its acidic and proteolytic properties necessary for the first stage of digestion.
- Pyrogen-free — Apyrogenous or pyrogen-free; not producing fever, describing a substance, infusible solution, or sterile medical preparation that is completely free of pyrogens (bacterial or chemical agents capable of inducing a febrile reaction in human or animal bodies upon injection). It is a mandatory trait for all fluids administered intravenously.
- Auto-capturing — The act of auto-capturing and its result; a technological process or natural phenomenon whereby a fluid, latent energy, gaseous emission, or informational signal is collected and stored automatically and autonomously by a specially designed device.
- Aviation chemistry — A specialized branch of the chemical industry and aeronautical engineering dealing with the research, synthesis, production, and testing of chemical materials used in aviation. This includes high-performance fuels, special lubricants resistant to extreme temperatures and pressures, hydraulic fluids, de-icing agents, composite resins, and protective coatings for aircraft structures.
