#cell wall
- Autolysin — An enzymatic substance (hydrolase) produced by a bacterial or animal cell, capable of dissolving or decomposing the membrane, cell wall, or internal biological structures of the organism that secreted it. In microbiology, these specific enzymes control cell division, peptidoglycan wall remodeling, and spontaneous bacterial lysis during the decline phase of a cellular culture.
- Bacteriolysis — A biochemical and immune process consisting of the destruction, dissolution, or structural disintegration of the bacterial cell wall and membrane, causing their death through the leakage of intracellular content. Physiologically, bacteriolysis is triggered by the direct action of specific enzymes, bacteriophages, or the membrane attack complex activated by the complement system in the presence of antibodies.
