#aviation terms
- Aero — As a noun or adjective, it represents a short, colloquial, or commercial form for aviation, aeronautics, aerodynamics, or air transport. As a scholarly combining form (prefix), it originates from the Greek 'aer' and serves to form scientific, technical, or medical terms, indicating a direct connection with air, atmosphere, gases, or aircraft.
- Altimeter — A flight instrument or portable device used in aviation, mountaineering, and surveying to measure and display the altitude of a point or an aircraft relative to a predetermined reference level (usually sea level or ground level), operating on barometric, radio, or laser principles.
- Trim — The structural position of static or dynamic equilibrium of a ship or aircraft, determined by the angle formed by its longitudinal axis with the horizontal plane. In naval architecture, it reflects the difference between aft and forward draft, while in aviation it indicates the aircraft's orientation relative to the flight path; in equitation, it denotes the rider's correct, firm, and stable posture in the saddle.
- Autorotation — An aerodynamic mechanism and emergency flight regime of a helicopter or rotary-wing aircraft, where the main rotor spins exclusively under the action of the ascending airflow, without engine power. This physical phenomenon allows the aircraft to descend in a controlled manner and land safely in the event of a major failure or complete failure of the propulsion system.
