- Anthranol — A crystalline aromatic organic compound belonging to the class of phenols derived from anthracene, existing in tautomeric equilibrium with anthrone. This intermediate substance, insoluble in water but soluble in warm organic solvents, exhibits an intense bluish fluorescence in solution and is used in the chemical synthesis of vat dyes and in biochemical assays for carbohydrate identification.
