#Rosaceae

• Acaena — A genus of perennial herbaceous or subshrubby plants in the Rosaceae family, primarily native to the Southern Hemisphere, remarkable for their ability to form dense, persistent, and highly resilient evergreen groundcovers. Morphologically, they are distinguished by fine, often pinnate foliage and globose inflorescences whose fruits develop spines or burrs adapted for zoochory (dispersal by attaching to animal fur).
• Acaena argentea — A species of creeping perennial plant within the Acaena genus, native to the temperate regions of South America (Chile and Argentina), remarkable for its exceptional ornamental value. It is individualized by its compound leaves, whose leaflets display metallic, silvery-blue reflections, covered in fine hairs that reflect sunlight and provide protection against dehydration in arid or alpine climates.
• Acaena glaucophylla — A species of creeping, evergreen perennial plant native to the mountainous and arid regions of South America (predominantly the Chilean and Argentine Patagonia). It is distinguished by its spectacular glaucous foliage, whose matte blue-green hue is the result of a protective waxy layer that reduces evapotranspiration and reflects intense solar radiation, a major ecological adaptation to alpine tundra or semi-desert conditions.
• Acaena lucida — A species of perennial herbaceous plant in the Acaena genus, native to the cold and insular regions of the Southern Hemisphere (such as the Falkland Islands, Tierra del Fuego, and Magellanic regions). Its defining characteristic is the intense green foliage with an extremely glossy, smooth surface devoid of dense hairs, which strongly reflects light and gives the plant a fresh, vibrant appearance, ideal for groundcover in moist or partially shaded areas.
• Acaena pinnatifida — A species of perennial herbaceous plant in the Acaena genus, native to the temperate and subalpine regions of South America. The taxon stands out due to the deeply divided structure of its compound leaves, whose leaflets are deeply incised or pinnatifid, resembling miniature ferns. This unique foliar architecture not only enhances its aesthetic value but also represents an efficient structural adaptation for dissipating strong winds in its native habitats.
• Acaena splendens — A species of suffruticose perennial plant in the Acaena genus, native to the high mountainous zones of Chile and Argentina. This plant stands out for its exceptional aesthetics, being entirely covered by a dense indumentum of long, silky, appressed hairs, which give it an intensely glittering (shining) silvery appearance. This structural ecotype acts as an efficient thermal shield against severe nocturnal frosts and extreme ultraviolet radiation at high altitudes.
• Adenostoma — A genus of shrubby plants in the Rosaceae family, native to the chaparral ecoregions of California and Baja California. These plants are structurally characterized by small, linear, often resinous leaves, and dense inflorescences with white flowers, showing a remarkable adaptation to wildfires through their ability to sprout rapidly from deep roots after burning.
• Adenostoma fasciculatum — A species of xerophytic perennial shrub native to California and northern Baja California, belonging to the Rosaceae family, popularly known as chamise. This plant represents a dominant structural component of the chaparral ecosystem, characterized by small, linear, fascicled needle-like leaves adapted to extreme drought, and by woody stems rich in flammable resins that promote rapid regeneration after fires.
• Alchemilla — A genus of perennial herbaceous plants in the Rosaceae family, primarily distributed throughout temperate and arctic regions of Europe and Asia, popularly known as lady's mantle. These plants are characterized by lobed leaves, often folded like a fan, which retain dew droplets through guttation, and tiny, greenish or yellowish flowers, being widely utilized in traditional medicine due to their astringent and anti-inflammatory properties.
• Alchemilla alpina — A species of perennial herbaceous plant in the genus Alchemilla, distributed across the alpine and subalpine zones of Europe (including the Carpathian Mountains), popularly known as alpine lady's mantle. It is distinguished from other related species by its leaves deeply divided into 5–7 digitate lobes, whose margins and lower surfaces are covered with silky, silvery hairs, giving it a shiny appearance and structural protection against the harsh mountain climate.
• Alchemilla hybrida — A species of perennial gemstone herbaceous plant in the genus Alchemilla (Rosaceae family), characterized by stems and petioles entirely covered with dense, erect, or spreading hairs, and lobed leaves with stipules often tinted pink-purple at the base. This plant structure is distributed across mountain and subalpine meadows of Central and Eastern Europe, heavily studied for its taxonomic complexity driven by apomictic reproduction.
• Alchemilla vulgaris — The type species of perennial herbaceous plant in the genus Alchemilla (Rosaceae family), popularly known as common lady's mantle. It is a structurally distinct plant featuring palmate-lobed leaves with serrated margins covered in fine hairs, and tiny, yellow-green flowers grouped in cyme inflorescences; it is historically recognized in phytotherapy for its astringent, hemostatic, and healing properties in gynecological disorders.
• Amygdalus variant — A rare, erroneous, archaic, or typographical spelling variant for the taxonomic term 'Amygdalus' (a subgenus or historical botanical genus grouping almond species, belonging to the Rosaceae family). In old medical treatises and botanical catalogs written in Latin, it referred to the common almond tree (Prunus dulcis / Amygdalus communis), recognized for its oleaginous seeds used in pharmacy and cosmetics.
• Amelanchier — A genus of plants, shrubs, or small trees in the Rosaceae family, primarily native to temperate regions of North America, popularly known as 'juneberry', 'serviceberry', or 'shadbush'. These plants are structurally cultivated for their ornamental qualities (spectacular white flowers in spring, colorful autumn foliage) and for their edible, small, globose, dark-purple fruits, which are highly sweet and rich in antioxidants.
• Amelanchier alnifolia — A species of fruit-bearing and ornamental shrub in the genus Amelanchier, Rosaceae family, native to western North America, popularly known as the 'saskatoon berry' or 'alder-leaved serviceberry'. The plant is structurally characterized by erect stems, oval leaves with toothed margins resembling those of the alder tree, and clusters of white flowers, followed by globose, dark-purple to black fruits that are sweet and highly valued for fresh consumption or industrial processing.
• Amelanchier arborea — A species of small tree or large shrub in the genus Amelanchier, Rosaceae family, native to eastern North America, commonly known as the 'downy serviceberry' or 'common serviceberry'. This plant reaches larger dimensions than other related species and is structurally distinguished by smooth, gray bark, young leaves covered in fine downy pubescence, and pendulous clusters of white flowers that bloom in early spring before the leaves fully unfold.
• Amelanchier canadensis — A species of shrub or small tree in the genus Amelanchier, Rosaceae family, native to eastern North America and Canada, popularly known as the 'Canadian serviceberry' or 'shadblow serviceberry'. The plant structurally grows in wet areas, swamps, or floodplains and is characterized by dense, multi-stemmed clumps, white flowers grouped in erect racemes, and edible black-purple globose fruits highly valued by wildlife.
• Amelanchier laevis — A species of small tree or deciduous shrub in the genus Amelanchier, Rosaceae family, native to eastern North America, popularly known as the 'smooth serviceberry' or 'allegheny serviceberry'. It is structurally distinguished from other species by its leaves being entirely hairless (smooth, glabrous) even when young, expanding with a spectacular bronze-purple tinge that complements the drooping clusters of snow-white flowers.
• Amelanchier ovalis — A species of deciduous shrub in the genus Amelanchier, Rosaceae family, notable for being the only species of this genus native to the European continent, including the mountainous and limestone areas of Romania, where it is popularly known as 'păducel negru' or 'European serviceberry'. The plant exhibits an airy crown, rounded or elliptical leaves with finely toothed margins, and white flowers with narrow petals, followed by small, globose, bluish-black edible fruits that are sweet-tart and rich in tannins.
• Silver cinquefoil — A regional diminutive form of the noun 'argint' (silver), denoting a small silver coin or decorative piece. In popular botany, it denotes the species Potentilla argentea (silver cinquefoil) or other small herbaceous plants in the Rosaceae family whose leaves feature a brilliant silvery-white tomentose pubescence underneath, structurally adapted to dry soils and sunny slopes.
