Manual of Classical Instrumentation and Orchestral Scoring Standards

• Archi — A collective musical term used to designate the entirety of bowed string instruments (violin, viola, cello, double bass) within a symphonic orchestra or a chamber ensemble. In a structural sense, the 'archi' section represents the core fundamental sonic nucleus of the classical orchestra, responsible for providing the continuous harmonic texture and timbral richness in orchestral compositions.
