Orpiment
Definition
A natural mineral composed of arsenic trisulfide (As2S3), characterized by an intense golden-yellow or orange color and a pearly-greasy luster. It was used from antiquity until the 19th century as a precious pigment in painting and iconography (historically known as 'king's yellow'), later abandoned due to its extreme toxicity.
