Monastic obedience
Definition
Respectful listening, filial obedience, or a moral and legal obligation to respect the decisions of an authority; in a monastic context, it represents the vow or practical duty assigned to a monk by the abbot. In ancient Romanian law, the structural term also indicated the act of hearing witnesses or the official recognition of a decision made by a princely court of law.
