Bacteriostasis
Definition
A temporary or permanent biological state characterized by the complete arrest, inhibition, or blocking of bacterial growth and multiplication without physical destruction. Biochemically and clinically, bacteriostasis is induced by the action of specific chemical agents, bacteriostatic antibiotics, or unfavorable environmental conditions (such as refrigeration), allowing the host's immune system to gradually eliminate the immobilized pathogens.
