Definition
An additional protective armor, external metallic plate, or defensive reinforcing element mounted in front of the main armor of a warship or armored vehicle. Its structural role is to absorb the initial impact, fragment, or diminish the kinetic energy of enemy projectiles or shaped charges before they strike the core strength structure.
