Akinetospore
Definition
An asexual, unicellular reproductive spore completely lacking flagella or cilia and consequently non-motile (immobile), characteristic of certain species of green algae, red algae, or lower fungi; unlike zoospores, it cannot move autonomously in the aquatic environment, being passively dispersed by water currents or wind. This biological structure is protected by a well-developed, rigid cell wall that allows it to survive unfavorable ecological conditions (such as temporary drought or temperature drops) until the environment becomes optimal for germination.
