Anisogamy
Definition
A type of sexual reproduction characterized by the fusion of two gametes (sex cells) that are unequal in size, shape, structure, or motor behavior; heterogamy. This biological mechanism represents a higher evolutionary step above isogamy, ensuring a functional specialization whereby the male gamete becomes small and mobile to facilitate searching, while the female gamete becomes large and static, storing nutrient resources for the future embryo.
