Analogon
Definition
A philosophical and psychological term of Greek origin designating an object, a structural equivalent, a mental image, or a concrete substitute that acts as a representative of an absent or abstract reality. In existential philosophy (for instance, in Jean-Paul Sartre's work), the term indicates that material support or intuitive intermediary (a painting, a photograph, a simulacrum) through which consciousness directs its intentionality toward a thing that is not physically present.
