#volcanoes
- Aleutians — An archipelago of over 300 small volcanic islands, arranged in a long arc separating the Bering Sea from the North Pacific Ocean. Most of these islands belong to the US state of Alaska, while their western extremity belongs to Russia, the region being structurally renowned for intense seismic activity along the Pacific Ring of Fire.
- Ampato — An active, snow-capped stratovolcano located in the Andes mountain range of southern Peru, reaching an elevation of approximately 6,288 meters above sea level. It achieved global renown in 1995 when archaeologists discovered on its frozen ridges the perfectly preserved body of an Inca girl sacrificed in a religious ritual, known as 'Momia Juanita' or the 'Ice Maiden'.
