#ventilation
- Acapnia — A pathological or physiological condition characterized by an abnormally low concentration or partial pressure of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the arterial blood and tissues. Most frequently caused by alveolar hyperventilation, it leads to a profound disruption of the body's acid-base balance (respiratory alkalosis) and clinically manifests through dizziness, paresthesia, or muscle spasms.
- Mine ventilation — The totality of works, installations, and technical methods used to ensure the constant circulation of a fresh air stream in underground mining works, tunnels, or industrial buildings; continuous renewal of the atmosphere in an enclosed space aimed at diluting and evacuating harmful, explosive gases or toxic parasitic dust.
- Aeration — The act of aerating and its result; a physical, mechanical, or biological process through which a space, a liquid (such as wastewater in treatment plants), or a solid (such as agricultural soil) is enriched with air or atmospheric oxygen to stimulate oxidative processes, eliminate parasitic gases, and improve structural quality.
- Aeration — The natural or artificial process of air penetration and circulation inside a porous structure, soil, or liquid medium; the state of ventilation of a space. In geology and agronomy, it specifically refers to the gaseous exchange between the earth's atmosphere and soil pores, vital for the respiration of underground organisms.
- Aeraulics — A branch of applied physics and installation engineering that deals with the study of air flow, distribution, and treatment in ducts, enclosed spaces, or ventilation systems; the technique of designing structural air renewal and conditioning networks based on the principles of gaseous fluid dynamics.
- Aeraulics engineer — An engineer or technical specialist qualified in the field of aeraulics, responsible for designing, sizing, testing, and maintaining ventilation, air conditioning, and hazardous gas exhaust installations in civil or industrial buildings.
- Aeraulics engineer — A woman engineer or technical specialist qualified in the field of aeraulics, responsible for designing and maintaining ventilation and climate control installations; the feminine form of the term aeraulician. As an adjective, it describes an activity, method, approach, or structural expertise proper to this field of gaseous fluid engineering.
- Airing — The informal act of airing out an enclosed space and its result; the freshening of air inside a room by opening windows or doors. Figuratively or broadly, the term describes a clean, relaxed atmosphere, free of suffocating elements, or an airy and orderly organization of objects or ideas.
- Ventilation — The act of airing out a space and its result; a controlled or natural process through which stale air from an enclosure is replaced with fresh outdoor air. In a technical sense, it represents a structural opening, a channel, or a specially designed device (grille, valve) that allows gas circulation, component ventilation, or the bleeding of air bubbles from a hydraulic circuit.
- Air duct — A large-sized pipe, structural tube, artificial channel, or complex technical installation specially designed for capturing, transporting, conveying, or distributing air masses or other gases within an industrial, mining, or urban ventilation system. The term can also conceptually describe a secured aerial corridor intended exclusively for the controlled transit of certain pneumatic flows.
- Anemostat — A terminal device or component mounted at the end of a ventilation or air conditioning duct, structurally designed to distribute, direct, and regulate the airflow introduced into or extracted from a room. It functions by uniformly dispersing the air current to prevent draft formation and ensure optimal thermal comfort without noise.
- Air-dry — To expose an object, surface, or material to the direct action of the wind or warm air in order to dry or ventilate it; to partially or completely dry out by evaporating surface moisture. In a reflexive or figurative sense, it can describe cooling oneself down, letting oneself be carried by the breeze, or gaining momentum in an aerodynamic movement.
