- Abbazia climatic resort — The historical name (frequently used in the former Austro-Hungarian Empire, currently Opatija in Croatia) of a renowned balneoclimateric health resort on the Adriatic coast. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it was officially declared a 'climatic health resort of curative importance' (Curort), serving as the elite European medical hub where Viennese physicians sent patients for thalassotherapy, pulmonary tuberculosis treatment, post-infectious convalescence, and the relief of neuroses through marine climatotherapy.
- Abkhazia — A geographical region located on the eastern coast of the Black Sea and the southern slope of the Greater Caucasus. In the field of balneoclimatology and Eastern European medical history, Abkhazia is internationally recognized as a premier therapeutic climatic zone, famous for its sanatoriums in Gagra or Sukhumi, built for the recovery of patients with chronic respiratory ailments, pulmonary tuberculosis, and cardiovascular diseases due to ionized mountain-marine air.
- Anti-scrofulous — Combating, treating, or alleviating scrofula (a historical form of extrapulmonary tuberculosis manifesting as inflammation and ulceration of the lymph nodes, especially in the neck area). The term circulated in traditional pharmaceutical recipe books of past centuries to describe ointments, iodized oils, or herbal infusions (such as nettle or walnut) recommended to reduce lymphadenopathy.
- Antituberculosis — Preventing, combating, curing, or acting directly against tuberculosis; a specific antibiotic or chemotherapeutic agent (such as isoniazid, rifampicin, or pyrazinamide) used to destroy or halt the replication of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacterium (Koch's bacillus) in the body.
- Autonephrectomy — A destructive pathological process through which a kidney completely loses its excretory function and undergoes massive atrophy, transforming into a fibrous, calcified, or cystic mass due to a severe chronic condition (such as renal tuberculosis, prolonged ureteral obstruction, or untreated nephrolithiasis). This phenomenon represents a spontaneous functional elimination of the organ, achieved by the body without surgical excision.
