- Areography — A branch of planetary astronomy and astronomical geography dealing with the scientific description, mapping, and study of the physical features, relief, and surface structures of the planet Mars. From a structural standpoint, areography is the Martian equivalent of terrestrial geography, utilizing data obtained via telescopes and space probes to draw Martian maps.
