- Agava — The common name of monocotyledonous xerophytic plants within the genus Agave, native to the arid and semi-arid regions of the Americas, particularly Mexico. These plants are structurally characterized by a dense rosette of large, fleshy, rigid leaves, often tipped with sharp spines, and a gigantic, spectacular inflorescence that appears only once at the end of the plant's life cycle, cultivated worldwide for textile fibers, alcoholic beverage production, or as ornamental plants.
