• Elongation — The act of elongating and its result; a physical, mechanical, or biological process through which the length of a body or an organ increases under the action of external tensile forces or through natural development. In strength of materials, it represents the structural parameter that measures the plastic or elastic deformation of a specimen subjected to an axial stress, often expressed as a percentage of the initial length.
