#self-medication
- To self-administer — To administer a medication, substance, or medical treatment to oneself, without the direct intervention or supervision of a medical professional; also, to lead, manage, or govern oneself independently, through one's own efforts and internal resources, applied to a community, institution, or territorial entity.
- Self-administration — The act of self-administering or its result; autonomous management of one's own affairs, resources, or structures by an institution or community, independent of a higher authority; also, the act of introducing a drug or therapeutic substance into one's own organism.
- Self-medication — A medical practice consisting of the initiation and administration of drugs, supplements, or remedies by an individual on their own initiative, to treat self-diagnosed symptoms without consulting a doctor and without an authorized prescription. While useful in managing minor ailments through OTC products, uncontrolled self-medication represents a major public health concern due to severe risks of misdiagnosis, adverse drug reactions, dangerous interactions, and the development of antibiotic resistance.
