#sedimentary basin

• Foredeep — An elongated, deep structural depression of the Earth's crust, located between a folded mountain chain (undergoing orogeny) and a stable platform or shield. The foredeep functions as a major sedimentary basin where vast volumes of terrigenous sediments (such as molasse, sandstones, conglomerates, and clays) accumulate due to the rapid erosion of the adjacent mountains.
