#overcomplicate

• To overcomplicate — To subject a liquid to the distillation process inside an alembic; by metaphorical and stylistic extension in modern language, to overly complicate an idea, theory, reasoning, or written text, rendering it hard to understand, obscure, subtle, or artificial due to unnecessary sophistication. This conceptual process structurally represents the transition from the technical sense of chemical refining to the figurative sense of exaggerated abstract analysis.
• Convoluted — Having undergone the process of distillation; by figurative, metaphorical, and common extension, that is extremely complicated, convoluted, twisted, obscure, or artificially sophisticated; lacking clarity, simplicity, and spontaneity. In stylistic or critical analysis, the term describes a discourse, text, reasoning, or expression style that uses excessive subtleties and pretentious structures, becoming difficult for the receiver to decipher.
