- Bacchanal — The feminine form of the adjective bacanal or, as a noun, a secret religious festival of eccentric mysticism celebrated in Antiquity in honor of the god Bacchus (Dionysus), characterized by frenzied ritual dances, strident music, and unlimited wine consumption. In a modern and extended sense, the term describes a turbulent night party, an orgy, or any collective manifestation marked by an extreme unleashing of the senses and the abandonment of social norms.
