- Ammon — A major deity in Egyptian mythology (Amun / Amon), originally associated with the air and hidden aspects of creation, later syncretized with the sun god as Amun-Ra and adopted by the Greeks as the god Ammon. Often depicted with ram horns, his cult was centered at the main temple in Thebes and the famous oracle in the Siwa Oasis, where Alexander the Great was proclaimed a legitimate son of this deity.
- Anyang — A city of outstanding archaeological and historical importance located in northern China (Henan province), recognized as the final ancient capital of the Shang dynasty (Yinxu site); it is globally famous for the discovery of oracle bones inscribed with the earliest forms of Chinese writing.
- Apollon — The original Greek form for the name of the god Apollo, the supreme solar deity of Ancient Greece who patronized light, prophecy, arts, music, archery, and healing; twin brother of the goddess Artemis. The name is closely linked to the Hellenic ideal of male physical perfection, the sacred oracle at Delphi, and the birth of the structural aesthetic concept of formal rationalism and measure.
