• Mount Aso — Mount Aso (Aso-san); the largest active volcano in Japan and one of the largest in the world, located in Kumamoto Prefecture on Kyushu Island. It represents a remarkable volcanic complex, famous for its massive caldera with a circumference of approximately 120 kilometers, which houses several settlements and an active central crater (Nakadake) constantly emitting sulfurous gases.
