#microtoponym

• Andora — A common spelling variant in Romanian (alongside Andorra) used to designate the small independent principality located in the Pyrenees Mountains, on the border between France and Spain. As a secondary microtoponym, it also represents the name of a commune and a picturesque seaside resort in the Liguria region, located in the Savona province of northwestern Italy, a recognized maritime tourist and historical hub.
• Anoita valley — A minor regional toponymic designation or rural proper name attributed to a place, a hayfield, or a minor valley within the Carpathian area of Romania. In traditional local microtoponymy, the term represents an archaic derived form functioning as a stable benchmark for rural communities, often indicating old land boundaries or seasonal grazing zones.
• Arșanu — A minor rural toponym or a rare Romanian surname, having archaic linguistic origins associated with pastoral vocabulary or derived from a local nickname. As a place name, the term identifies landforms (valleys, micro-regions, or springs) bearing regional phonetic variations of the root 'ars' (burnt), or is etymologically linked to the name of former landowners, stably integrated into rural historical geography.
• Arseanca — A regional geographical name within the Romanian area, often used to identify small watercourses or rural microtoponyms historically associated with thermal phenomena, controlled burning of vegetation for agricultural purposes, or settlements near burnt areas. Linguistically, the term represents a variant or derivation from the past participle root 'ars' of the verb 'a arde', integrated into local onomastics through the suffixation specific to descriptive place names.
• Arsineasa — A regional Romanian toponym or hydronym, identifying a landform (valley, hill, glade) or a small watercourse, whose archaic name is structurally derived from the root of the noun 'arsă' or adjective 'ars' (burned), historically associated with forest fires for expanding pastures or areas affected by severe droughts. This name is preserved in the memory of mountain and sub-Carpathian rural communities, reflecting ancient agrarian practices of clearing land through fire.
• Arsu — A Romanian toponym and surname directly derived from the adjective or past participle 'ars' (burnt). As a place name, it designates specific microtoponyms (hills, streams, or valleys) historically associated with forest fires, land clearing through fire for expanding pastures, or arid, calcareous soils heavily dried by the sun. As a surname, it reflects an archaic nickname linked to a physical trait or the bearer's place of origin.
• Arsul — The articulated variant of the toponym 'Arsu', specifically used to designate a particular geographical feature, such as the Arsul Peak or the Arsul stream. The definite article '-ul' emphasizes the uniqueness of the place within the respective community, indicating a prominent landform, a forest partially burnt in the past, or a watercourse that partially dries up during periods of intense heat.
• Babadam — A proper noun assigned to minor toponyms or local geographic elements of archaic nature. Although extremely rare in contemporary major cartography, the term survives in historical documents or regional records as an old administrative designation or a parcel boundary name closely linked to historical population movements or temporary rural settlements from past centuries.
• Băcăinț — A minor native toponym or hydronym encountered within the Romanian linguistic and geographical space, historically utilized to designate a small watercourse, a valley, or a localized landform. This word preserves archaic ethno-linguistic resonances associated with old rural settlements and the early organization of boundaries or small family estates in intra-Carpathian regions.
