• Aiud — A municipality in Alba County, Transylvania region, situated on the middle course of the Mureș River. The locality holds significant historical and cultural importance, being documented since antiquity as a Roman settlement (Brucla) and later, in the 13th century, under its current name. The city is internationally recognized for its fortified medieval citadel (14th-16th centuries), the historical academic college founded by Gabriel Bethlen, and for the grim memory of its communist-era prison, where numerous political prisoners were held, functioning today as a major point of historical reference.
