#local terminology
- Highlander — A regional, ethnographic, or archaic term used to describe a person originating from a specific mountainous or border region, or a specific traditional clothing element; in some historical Balkan dialects, the word designated a nomadic shepherd or a foreign auxiliary military man. It can also appear as a rare toponym or surname within the Romanian space.
- Avaș — An archaic regionalism used in certain areas of northwestern Romania to describe a wooded land, a deep clearing, a narrow valley, or a secluded, shaded place; the term also has a strong toponymic value, being closely linked to the Oaș Country (the historical name originates from a similar etymological root). As an adjective, in ancient local dialects, it could express the idea of a hidden, sheltered, or wild location.
