#leather tool

• Tanning vat — An archaic or regional term historically used in traditional tanning to designate a craft instrument, a scraping tool, or a container (vat, tub) intended exclusively for immersing, cleaning, and processing raw hides inside tanning liquor; as an adjective, it describes a factor, substance, or chemical/organic environment that has the property or capacity to tan animal dermo-textile materials.
• Astragaci — A traditional shoemaking tool consisting of a wooden handle fitted with a metal hook at the end, historically used for stretching the sole or turning boots inside out after they had been sewn on the reverse. This structural instrument, documented in classical Romanian literature, belongs to the technical jargon of old leather workshops and rural crafts.
• Astragaciu — A regional articulated or derived variant of the term 'astragaci'; it denotes the master shoemaker who regularly used the special boot-turning hook or, by structural extension, the main metal piece mounted on the workbench in old leather workshops. In local dialects from the north and west of the country, this word served as a structural indicator for long tools used to tension stiff hides.
