#germicide
- Antimicrobial — Destroying pathogenic microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa) or preventing their multiplication and development; a broad class of pharmaceutical substances or chemical cleaning agents utilized for sterilization and treatment. In a clinical sense, it includes antibiotics, antivirals, and disinfectants, acting structurally to protect the host organism from infection.
- Antiseptic — Destroying or halting the growth of bacteria and other pathogenic microorganisms on living tissues; a chemical substance used to prevent cutaneous or mucous infections. Unlike industrial disinfectants, an antiseptic has low toxicity, making it safe for use on open wounds, burns, oral cavities, or skin, with classic examples including rubbing alcohol, iodine, and hydrogen peroxide.
