#genetics terminology
- Agenosome — A cellular organelle or subcellular structure with a specific role in replication or division processes, occasionally described in specialized biological literature regarding the absence or modification of active genetic material. It represents a discrete structural entity used to explain particular mechanisms of cellular differentiation or experimentally induced chromosomal abnormalities.
- Allelo-generating — Determining, stimulating, or responsible for the formation and development of alternative variants of the same gene (alleles); relating to biochemical or mutagenic factors that induce structural variability at the same chromosomal locus. In molecular studies, the term describes an agent or cellular process capable of altering the original nucleotide sequence, leading to the emergence of new allelomorphic forms.
- Amphitoky — An accepted orthographic and phonetic variant for the term 'amfitochie'; it defines the biological process of amphitokous parthenogenesis through which unfertilized eggs give rise to individuals belonging to both sexes. It is a rare structural form used in some older dictionaries or treatises translated directly from French.
