• Apparatchik — A political and historical term (originating from Soviet jargon) designating a career activist or official within the administrative or communist party apparatus; a person loyal to the bureaucratic system who blindly executes superior directives without initiating reforms. In a modern pejorative sense, it describes a rigid bureaucrat who exclusively protects their position and group interests at the expense of public efficiency.
