• Racecourse — A specially designed place, track, smooth ground, or bordered lane where running, trotting and galloping horse races, or athletic training take place; an archaic hippodrome; a running ground for animals. In old rural land registries, the term also described a meadow or open pasture where youth used to race their horses.
