#fat cell
- Adipocyte — A specialized cell of adipose connective tissue, responsible for the synthesis, storage, and metabolism of lipids as triglycerides; this structural unit contains a voluminous central lipid droplet that pushes the nucleus and cytoplasm to the periphery. Adipocytes play an essential role in body energy homeostasis, thermal insulation, and the secretion of specific hormones (adipokines), such as leptin.
- Adipose — Containing fat, structurally formed of fat, or possessing its characteristics. In anatomy and histology, it describes the type of connective tissue specialized in storing triglycerides inside cells called adipocytes, fulfilling essential roles as an energy reserve, thermal insulation, and mechanical protection of organs.
