#false fruit

• Anthocarp — A type of false fruit or complex plant structure where the true fruit (usually an achene) remains tightly enveloped and protected by the persistent, altered, or lignified base of the perianth or floral calyx (characteristic of plants in the Nyctaginaceae family, such as the four o'clock flower). This structural formation plays a vital role in seed dissemination and protection against environmental factors.
